History of Welding

Welding has come a long way over the years. Even in Colorado. There has been improvements in welding technology over the years. Thus, welding today is much different than it was in the past.

When was welding invented? Some believe that the Egyptians were welding over 2,000 years ago. Others state that basic welding got started in the Middle Ages. Nonetheless, conventional welding didn’t really get going until the 19th century. This means welding would have came about in the early 1800s.

No one today is credited with inventing welding, but Sir Humphy Davy can be credited with first introducing the arc to welding. This form he made between two carbon electrodes using a battery. Later, many more advancements to welding came in the 20th century.

Some of those advancements include the uses of power and improvements to make welders more efficient. One move forward was when  to work outside without having to worry about the wind. In addition, welding processes became more modernized. This has led to the use of friction welding and laser welding.

Today, welding is a lot further than where it was years ago. In the past, welding was only done in weld shops. You would have to go to the weld shop and drop off your project with them. This meant that you would have to disassemble the part you needed welded, take it to the shop, and then wait until they finished with it.  Fortunately, equipment is much more advanced and you can just call a mobile welder to come to your shop or job site.
